Psst…Hey You…Let’s Whisper

Now you can send private chat messages without leaving your current chat.

Whisper to friends, followers, and subscribers to chat privately one-on-one across all of Twitch. Your whisper will show up in-line with the rest of chat on web and mobile apps no matter what channel you’re on. If you’re watching Lirik and your friend is watching MANvsGAME, you can still whisper to him/her as long as you are both online. But only you and the user you’re whispering to will be able to see the conversation.

Simply type /w [username] into chat to send a whisper to any online user with the appropriate whisper settings. The username will autocomplete with the last 5 users you’ve whispered to or received a whisper from during that particular chat session, or you can type a complete username.

Whisper preferences are controlled in Settings, and you can allow whispers from any Twitch user or limit to just broadcasters you follow.

Can I block whispers from a user?
Yes, you can ignore a user who is whispering to you at any time. When you ignore a user we’ll ask you why so we can determine if there’s been a violation of our terms of service.

What happens if I try to whisper to a user whose settings don’t allow it?
Don’t worry – we’ll let you know. You’ll get a message in chat if another user’s settings don’t allow you to send them a whisper.

Can I whisper to more than one user a time?
Yep!

Can I add more than one user to a whisper conversation?
No. You can only whisper to a single user, not a group of users.

Can I whisper to another user in a group chat?
Yes, you can whisper to another user in a group chat.

Can I whisper if sub-only mode is on?
You can whisper even if a chat is in sub-only mode.

If I whisper to another user who is online, but on a different channel than I am, will he/she get it?
Yep! Whispers are global and aren’t limited to the users in the channel you’re currently watching.

If I have multiple chat windows open, will whispers appear in all of them?
Yes, whispers will show up in every chat you have open.
